Get Outside! 5 Summer Activities to Enjoy with the Senior in Your Life

June 21 is the official kick-off to summer 2022! Here at Comforting Home Care summer is our absolute favorite season - nothing can compare to the long sunny days with a warm summer breeze. This time of year is perfect for enjoying time outside with loved ones and making memories that will last a lifetime.

Looking for some ideas on how you can get outside with the seniors in your life? We’ve put together a list of 5 fun summer activities to do with the whole family, appropriate for everyone from 0-100 years old!

  1. Attend a Sporting Event - Get ready to cheer on your favorite team! Whether you’ve got tickets to a professional sporting event or your grandson’s baseball game, you’re certain to have a great time. Don’t forget to stock up on game day snacks like hot dogs, popcorn and ice cream for dessert!

  2. Pack a Picnic - A super fun way to get outdoors is to pack a picnic with all of your favorite snacks. Foodies can run wild here by making hors d’oeuvres, a main course and a dessert all packed up in a super fashionable picnic basket for a picturesque afternoon of dining alfresco. Looking for something more low-key? Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are just as effective and fun - it’s more about the adventure of going on a picnic with your loved ones than what you pack to eat.

  3. Stroll Around the Park - Indulge a little too hard on picnic snacks? Enjoy a stroll around the park and take in the sights and sounds of nature. Many local parks will have walking trails that you can explore without too much strenuous hiking. Be sure to pack plenty of water and sunscreen, you don’t want to end up dehydrated in the hot summer sun!

  4. Enjoy the Water - Even when the temperature climbs, you don’t have to be stuck inside. This is the perfect time to visit a local swimming pool, water park or local lake for a splish-splashing good time that both kids and kids at heart will enjoy.

  5. Just Get Outdoors! - When the weather is beautiful, don’t feel like you need to have a specific activity planned to enjoy the outdoors. Get outside while reading your favorite book, enjoying a cup of coffee or even just sitting in the shade. The fresh air is certain to give your mood an instant boost!

When you’re planning all the fun ways to spend your summer days, please be mindful that seniors are at an increased risk of heat-related illnesses so it is important to take appropriate precautions to ensure everyone has a fun and safe time.

We hope that your summer is filled with lots of great family memories!
