Sometimes it is helpful to know that you are not the only one. Today's "sandwich generation" includes millions of people wedged between their grown children and their aging parents. Providing elder care at home can be challenging.

Family caregivers need to take special care of themselves in order to be available for their elderly parents as well as their spouse and adult children. Family caregivers have to take care of themselves physically and emotionally or they risk being unable to effectively support their families. You need to care for the caregiver!


It is easy to become overwhelmed and stressed. That's why it is critical to stay healthy and to reach out for support from family, friends, and professional caregivers. No single person, no matter how dedicated, can do it all. Everyone has a role to play and you need to be strong enough to call for help when you need it. You may be part of the sandwich generation, but that doesn't mean you have to be crushed in the middle.
